Dear Foster Parents and Kinship Caregivers, You are now eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. We continuously advocated for you to have access to vaccines and just received confirmation from the Department of Health (DOH) that you are now eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. There is no specified age requirement. Foster parents and kinship caregivers of all ages are immediately eligible for a vaccine and can now begin scheduling appointments. To assess your eligibility to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, visit the DOH Phase Finder form. Foster parents and kinship caregivers support the daily, functional and health needs of children and youth. Per DOH guidance, foster parents and kinship caregivers are to answer “Yes” to the following question: Are you a worker in a health care setting who is at risk for acquiring or transmitting COVID due to exposure to patients, co-workers or specimens? Once Phase Finder shows that you are eligible, please print or screenshot the confirmation page, along with a screenshot of this email, and bring that with you when you get your vaccine. Where can I get vaccinated? Currently, the Department of Health (DOH) is offering mass vacation sites in Kennewick, Ridgefield, Spokane, and Wenatchee. A federal mass vaccination program will begin operating in Yakima on March 31. For more information, visit the Yakima Health District website. Contact your local health resources to get on a waiting list or schedule a future appointment. Pop-up clinics happen in various communities. Check your local County Public Health website and local government and community social media pages. Need a ride to get a vaccine? The Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) offers help with transportation for non-emergency health care appointments. Vaccine visits are non-emergency, so HCA can help people get to a COVID-19 vaccine site. This is free for those with Apple Health who have no other way to get to appointments. For more information, call your country’s transportation broker. The availability of vaccines is still very limited in every community. Keep in mind that it could take time to secure a slot to get vaccinated, even if you are phase-eligible. For more information, visit the DOH Vaccine Locator. |
