About the Author

Kurt Hiller (1885–1972) was a German essayist, lawyer, political activist, and one of the leading voices in the early movement for homosexual rights. He worked closely with pioneering sexologist and activist Magnus Hirschfeld and later served as chairman of the Scientific-Humanitarian Committee, one of the world’s first organizations dedicated to LGBTQ+ advocacy.

Hiller’s activism and outspoken opposition to discrimination made him a target of the Nazi regime. He was arrested and imprisoned following the Nazi rise to power before eventually escaping Germany and continuing his advocacy in exile.
